Medicare rebates are available for the assessment and diagnosis of complex neurodevelopmental disorders such as Autism and intellectual disability.

NDIS funding can be used for psychology assessments (on an hourly basis), if the goal is to understand their behaviour, functioning, and inform therapeutic/intervention supports aligned to their NDIS goals. However, you cannot use NDIS funding for diagnostic assessments that are purely seeking a diagnosis.

Private health fund rebates may also apply for psychological assessments depending on your level of cover. You will need to confirm with your private health fund directly.
